My first experience in the working world was with Aena thanks to the internships offered through the partnership with the Madrid Polytechnic University. I thought that starting my experience in the largest airport company in the world was undoubtedly the best opportunity for me to put into practice what I had learned about airports and aviation from my Aerospace Engineering Degree. The year and a half I spent doing my internship with the Airport Network department gave me an overview of airport management.
I joined the Regulatory Control Division through AENA's public job vacancies in March 2020 as part of the newly created Compliance Oversight Department. I was delighted to have the opportunity to participate in developing and implementing a new system with all that this entailed: studying and understanding processes with which it interacts, regulatory updating, training in other areas, participating in working groups, etc. The most notable thing was making significant changes that made us rethink areas with room for improvement and that translated into real results.
Since then I have continued to face challenges and grow with new positions as Head of the Oversight and Compliance Section in the Airport Planning and Regulatory Control Division, later as Oversight and Compliance Coordinator in the same Division and currently as Head of the Management Office Department at Fuerteventura Airport.
Aena really does encourage team work and commitment, which translates into achieving common goals and creating small 'families'. In turn, the wide range of fields covered at Aena provides flexibility when meeting the needs of staff and responding to professional concerns and possible changes demanded by employees.
I was particularly struck by Aena's commitment to employee well-being through such essential aspects as healthcare, private insurance and work-life balance. Mixed teleworking, flexible clocking-in hours and the provision of time off for personal matters, among other things, allow for a sense of well-being that is to be appreciated.

Internship in Legal Counsel Department
I started at Aena as an intern in the Legal Consultancy Division with a work placement as part of the Master’s Degree in Corporate Legal Consultancy that I was studying at Carlos III University of Madrid. A call for graduates was announced at the end of that same year. I applied and was placed on the temporary placement waiting list. A temporary Legal Technician job came up a few months later in the Labour Legal Office and then I started as a Legal Technician in the Office.
My job mainly consists of offering legal advice to the different units at various airports and defending the interests of Aena when necessary, both in and out of court. In addition to being a versatile and dynamic position, one of the things that I like most is the human interaction with colleagues from different airports.
One of my biggest lessons has been teamwork and how positive it is, for work in general, to be able to create a good working environment. I would also highlight the ability to organise and prioritise different tasks.

My experience at Aena began in 2013 thanks to a work experience agreement between Aena and the UAM to complete by Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical Management. It was a one-year grant in the Airport Development, Planning and Investment Control Division and, during that period, I confirmed my desire to continue at the organisation. Then, in 2017, I applied to a call for graduates in an attempt to rejoin Aena; in January 2020, I achieved the goal I had worked so hard for.
Getting a permanent position at the organisation and being able to do my job in an agile, dynamic way was a great achievement for me. My input initially focused on automating reports for committees, boards and ad hoc requests. As I have experience in airport operations due to the external jobs I have held, I could also offer a real operational view when it comes to planning investments in airport infrastructures.

My first contact with Aena was as an intern because I was offered the internship while I was studying at university. While working as an intern I felt very supported by my colleagues and my managers. They were heavily involved in my learning and made me feel part of the team so that once I found out about the call for applications I couldn't pass up the opportunity.
When I started at Aena, I worked at the Contracts Board department, first as an intern, then as an economic-administrative graduate, later as Head of the Technical-Economic Evaluation Section until I reached the position of Head of Contracts Board Department. I have currently reached the position of Head of the Management and Contracts Assistance Department in the Contracts Division.
The most important thing for me is the good atmosphere among colleagues, safety and occupational stability that working at a company such as Aena and working in such an important sector in Spain provides.
One of the corporate benefits at Aena that I would highlight is the social assistance programme. It provides support to employees and our families in matters relating to health and education. With regard to working flexibility, the flexible timetable is very important for me because it means I can balance my work with my family. I also believe that implementing remote working has been another step towards a better work-life balance.
