Carbon footprint
Aena calculates its carbon footprint every year, which makes it possible to monitor the progress made to achieve the objectives of the Climate Action Plan and identify the effectiveness of the measures applied.
Scope 1
Direct emissions from sources or processes and activities controlled by Aena at its facilities. Included in this scope are stationary combustion sources (generator sets, portable generators, boilers, practices of the Fire Fighting Service and auxiliary pumps of the fire water tanks) and airport vehicles (heavy and light fleet).
Scope 2
Indirect emissions which are produced by the generating of electricity or thermal energy produced and consumed at airports..
Scope 3
Comprised by the remaining indirect emissions from third-party emissions such as those related to the LTO cycle (landing and take-off of aircraft of airlines operating at airports), APUs (Auxiliary power units that supply energy to aircraft when they´re on land), vehicles and machinery that provide Handling and other services (energy consumption by dealers, land access, employee travel, etc.).
